Back up Athletes for Rio 2016

According to WTF rules, if the quota place of a country was obtained through the WTF Olympic Ranking, the NOC may enter athlete(s) who have been ranked within the top 20 of the WTF Olympic Ranking at point in time between December 2015 (published in January, 2016 Ranking) and June 2016 (published in July, 2016 Ranking).

Iran succeeded in winning 3 Olympic Games quota in -58 kg, -80 kg and +80 kg by Farzan Ashourzadeh, Mahdi Khodabakhshi and Sajjad Mardani.

These athletes could be, however, replaced by any athlete that will be ranked within top 20 between December 2015 and June 2016.

In -58 kg, Armin Hadipour, ranked 25, is trying to mount to rank 20 in the remaining time.
In -80 kg, Masoud Hajizavareh, ranked 5, has the chance to be replaced by Mahdi Khobakhshi.
In +80 kg, Omid Amidi, ranked 21, could enter the top 20 by adding only 4 points to his ranking.

According to Bijan Moghanlou, the head coach of Iran National team, Armin Hadipour, Masoud Hajizavareh and Omid Amidi are considered as back up athletes for the 3 athletes who have already gained Olympic quotas for Iran, so that if any of them cannot participate in Rio 2016 due to injury, Iran does not lose any chance.

Farzan Ashourzadeh, Armin Hadipour, Behnam Asbaghi, Abolfazl Yaghoubi, Mahdi Khodabakhshi, Sajjad Mardani and Omid Amidi are getting prepared in the camp of the National team under the supervision of Bijan Moghanlou as head coach and Mahdi Bibak and Mehrdad Yousefi as coaches.
