Iran’s captain Nasr Azadani announces retirement
Captain of Iran Taekwondo national team Alireza Nasr Azadani has officially announced his retirement from competition.
Nasr Azadani, 30, has brought an end to his career after more than 10 years in the elite of our sport.
He clinched a gold medal in the lightweight division (-74 kg) at the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships in Gyeongju, South Korea, as well as taking a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. Azadani also won two gold medals at the Asian Championships in 2008 in Luoyang and in 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Despite having an extremely successful career, he couldn’t achieve one of his main goals: participating in the Olympics.
“My dream of winning an Olympic medal didn’t come true. However, I did my best and I am satisfied with the achievements I’ve accomplished as a member of the Iran national team over the last 10 years,” Azadani said.
“To win a gold medal in the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships is my best memory, as we brought an end to the 40-year South Korea’s supremacy in the sport,” he added.
Nasr Azadani was a member of his hometown club Gitipasand Isfahan.
