Mardani and the Last Step for Entering Rio 2016



In the last part of the report regarding the invited athletes to 2015 Grand Prix Final, we introduce the athletes in +80 kg. Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Gabon, South Korea, Iran, Germany and France have representatives in this weight category.

Iran’s representative in this weight category in Sajjad MARDANI who is standing on the 6th rank right now. Sajjad had an outstanding performance after his recovery from his injury in 2015 World Championships.

There is only one step left for Sajjad to win the quota of the Olympic Games, but who are his opponents in +80 kg?

Dmitriy SHOKIN from Uzbekistan (23 years old)

Significant achievements: Gold medal of 2015 World Championships, Gold medal of 2014 Asian Championships, Gold medal of 2015 Asian Games, 2 Gold medals and 1 Bronze medal of 2015 GPs.

Dmitriy had a spectacular performance in 2015 which lead him to the highest rank of +80 kg in less than a year. He is going to face M'bar N'DIAYE from France in his first match. If Dmitriy wins this match, Sajjad’s Olympic Games quota will be confirmed.

He will fight against Sajjad if both of them succeed in proceeding to the final round.

Jasur BAYKUZIYEV from Uzbekistan (29 years old)

Significant achievements: Silver medal of 2015 World Championships, Silver and Gold medal of 2012 and 2014 Asian Championships, Gold medal of 2014 Asian Games, 2 Silver medals and 1Bronze medal of 2014 GP.

Jasur, who has had no loss against the representatives of Iran so far, will face the representative of Germany on his first match. In the next step he should fight with the winner of the match between Sajjad and Radik ISAEV from Azerbaijan.

Radik ISAEV from Azerbaijan (26 years old)

Significant achievements: Gold medal of 2015 World Championships, Bronze medal of 2013 World Championships, Gold medal of 2014 European CHAMPIONSHIPS, Gold medal of 2015 European Games.

Radic had no achievements in 2014 and 2015 GPs. His Olympic Games quota is confirmed though. He is going to meet Sajjad in his first match.

Anthony OBAME from Gabon (27 years old)

Significant achievements: Silver medal of 2012 Olympic Games, Gold medal and Bronze medal of 2015 and 2-13 World Championships, Gold medal of 2014 African Championships, Silver medal of 2015 African Games, Gold medal of 2014 GP.

Anthony participated in 2 GPs during 2014 and 1 GP during 2015. His quota of the Olympic Games is confirmed now. He is going to meet Dong-min CHA from South Korea in his first match and after that he will fight with the winner of the match between Uzbekistan and France. He will face Sajjad if he proceeds to the final round.

Dong-min CHA from South Korea (29 years old)

Significant achievements: Gold medal of 2008 Olympic Games, Silver medal of 2011 World Championships, Gold medal of 2012 Asian Championships, Gold medal of 2014 GP, Participation in 2012 Olympic Games.

Dong-min has had no achievement in the recent events but he hopes to overcome Anthony OBAME from Gabon in his first match.

Sajjad MARDANI from Iran (27 years old)

Significant achievements: Silver medal of 2013 World Championships, Bronze medal of 2012 Asian Championships, 1 Silver medal and 3 Bronze medals of 2014 and 2015 GPs.

Sajjad is going to face Radik ISAEV from Azerbaijan in his first match and fight with the winner of the match between Germany and Uzbekisatn. In the final round he will meet the representative of Uzbekistan, France, South Korea or Gabon.

Volker WODZICH from Germany (30 years old)

Significant achievements: 2 Bronze medals of2012 and 2014 Asian Championships, 1 Gold medal and 1 Bronze medal of 2014 and 2015 GPs.

Volkar is going to fight with Jasur BAYKUZIYEV from Uzbekistan in his first match. If he wins, he will fight with the winner of the match between Iran and Azerbaijan. Volkar has not had a good performance in 2015 however.

M'bar N'DIAYE from France (32 years old)

Significant achievements: Silver medal of 2014 European Championships, gold medal of 2014 GP.

M'bar has a hard path to reaching Rio 2016. First he should overcome Dmitriy SHOKIN from Uzbekistan and after than he has to beat the winner of the match between Gabon and South Korea.

Final GP will be held on 5-6 Dec. in 2015 and the 6 high ranked athletes of each weight category will gain the direct quota of the Olympic Games.
