Mardani: My Goal is to Collect Olympic Ranking Points in GPs

Sajad Mardani, Iranian heavy weight athlete, could not participate in University Students World Championships, Korean Open Tournament and 1st GP due to knee injury that occurred in 2015 World Championships in his match with the representative of Cuba.

After his recovery, Sajad could participate in GP, Turkey and win a Silver medal by beating the representatives of New Zealand, Belarus and Uzbekistan.

In his interview with Iran Taekwondo Federation Sajad answered the following questions:

* How did you appear in the first event you took part after recovery?

- It was a success since I won the Silver medal of GP, Turkey although I had not fought for 5 months.

* Most athletes thought you would not win a medal considering your injury!

- Yes many people thought I could not have a good performance short after my recovery but I did my best to prove they were wrong.

* What happened in the final round?

- I had analyzed my opponents with technical officials of Iran national team but I think it was the day of the representative of South Korea and he, therefore, won the final round. By winning the Silver medal I collected 24 points for my ranking anyway.

* You overpowered Dmitriy Shokin from Uzbekistan in the semi-final round. Considering the fact that he had won 4 Gold medals in the 4 recent events how was your fight with him?

- He is a great athlete but he won Gold medals in the events I was absent in!
