Interview with History Making Taekwondo Girl

Right 27 days ago, Kimia Alizadeh registered another record by winning the Bronze medal of 2015 World Championships and became the first female medalist of the World Championships in the history of Iran’s Taekwondo.

With her great achievement, now Kimia is one of the greatest hopes of Iran in 2016 Olympic Games of Rio. She believes that the biggest pressure on her was the great expectation from her which made her feel tense.

She answered the following questions in her interview with I.R. Iran Taekwondo Federation:

*How did you find the World Championships different from other events?

The atmosphere of the World Championships is different from all other events. I felt stressful because my teammates could not achieve any medals and everyone expected me to win one.

*How was you start?
The representative of Poland was an easy opponent and I could beat her 10-0.

*Talk about other matches.
In the second match I fought with the representative of Croatia who had Bronze medal of Olympic Games and was a clever fighter. As we ended 3-3, we had to continue in the golden point round. For a moment, I thought my opponent won the round but I was wrong and could beat her in the final seconds.

*How did you find the American athlete?
My rival got 4 points at the beginning but I did not lose my hope. I could end the match 4-4 and overcame in the golden point round.

*What do you think about your most difficult opponent, Jade Jones?
Jade had won me in the golden point round in Netherlands and I knew her well. We proceeded the match with very close points and finally I succeeded in winning her 9-10. However, it was hard for her to accept failure. I cried out of joy when I won the match with the best female athlete of 2014.

*How did you spend the night before quarter final match?
I was so happy because my Bronze was confirmed but I couldn’t sleep out of stress. If only the organizing committee held the matches of each category in 1 day.

*Which event do you dream to participate in?
First of all, I wish to take part in the Olympic Games and achieve a Gold medal. But I also wish I could fight in Grand Prixes. These events increse the capacity of the athletes and I believe that Grand Prix medals are very precious.
