Moving Towards Olympic Gold Quietly

2 years after losing the medal of 2013 World Championships, Mahdi Khodabakhshi could win the Gold medal of 2015 World Championships.

He was the only athlete who could win the final round of the World Championships, Russia with 12 points difference before the end of the third round.

This 192 cm athlete beat Steven Lopez, holder of 2 Gold and Bronze medal of Olympic Games, 13-1 in quarter final and then overcame Tahir Gulic in semi final.

In his interview with Iran Taekwondo Federation, Mahdi answered the following questions:

* Could you reach your goal?
Yes. After the bitter memory of 2013 World Championships, I saw the result of my hard work.

*Did you gain your medal easily?
Of course no. it was the result of analyzing my opponents with the technical officials of Iran National team and having a certain plan for each match.

*You were losing weight until the last day before your matches. Was it difficult?
Yes. My fights were on the final day of the competitions and I had to lose 7 kg which was really hard.

*Which method of competitions is better? Holding all matches in 1 day or in 2 days?
For me fighting in 1 day is more desirable because I get physically more prepared after each match.

*Who were your most difficult and easiest opponents in this event?
There is no easy fight in World Championships level but the most difficult match was with the representative of Germany.

*You added 120 points to your Olympic ranking. Do you think your direct Olympic quota is confirmed now?
We still have 4 Grand Prixes ahead which have 200 points totally. I am determined to do my best to get these points. All these events are important to me; no matter I need their points or no. The Marathon continues up to the Olympic Games and achieving the Gold medal.

*Any final words?
I would like to thank the federation, technical officials, my family and my friends that contributed to my achievements.
