Cameroon wins Central African Taekwondo Championship



The fifth edition of the central African taekwondo championship took place from April 17th to 21st in Ndjamena, Chad with Cameroon emerging champion.

Cameroon won a total of ten medals, four in gold,
four silver and two bronze.

According to the head of the Cameroonian delegation to Chad, Gana Emery, the greatest challenge to Cameroon in the competition came from countries like the republic of Congo and Central Africa Republic who emerged second and third respectively.
The delegation to Chad was given a triumphant welcome upon their return to the country on Monday. They were received amidst shouts and ululations by the vice president of the federation, Tsafack André upon touch down at the Nsimalen international airport.

Later that evening a small party was thrown for them by the president of the federation Tchoquessi Edouard, who expressed joy at the victory obtained in Chad. He said the measure to put the athlete in camp for 21 days paid off and that the federation was going to continue with the same policy in preparing for the upcoming African championship in Tunisia.
Some seven countries took part in the tournament namely Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe as well as the host country, Chad. By winning the competition, Cameroon attained their objective of dethroning Gabon as champions of the sub region. The next target now is the African champion that will be coming up in a fortnight’s time in Tunis.
As such there will be no respite for the taekwondo national selection that is going to continue camping in preparation for the competition. Some athletes will be added to the 14 who took part in the central African championship for the Tunis expedition. Officials of the federation precise that the nature of the preparation and size of the Cameroonian delegation to Tunis will depend on the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.

Officials of the ministry were conspicuously absent from the airport and the Makombe hotel where the athletes were accommodated.
